This position will play a key role in the implementation of the Town's Climate Adaptation Plan and assist the Town in meeting the objectives set out in its Sustainability Statement. The Sustainability Coordinator will play an important role in nurturing relationships with community development and environmental leadership groups in the Town. The SSVP Carbonear Foodbank is a community-minded organization that works diligently to meet the evolving needs of the people they serve. It is their mission to fill any identified gaps in services to meet the needs of their community. This intern would be tasked with seeking and applying for funding for the construction of the earth-sheltered greenhouse, identifying and promoting the benefits of greenhouses for food security organizations, forming connections for possible community partnerships, and working with the organization on the prep for greenhouse construction. This position will engage with communities and their members on selected projects, particularly the Limestone Landscapes Priority Place. The position will offer municipal leaders, fish harvesters, teachers, and other citizens of small, coastal communities opportunities to engage in activities aimed at conserving terrestrial and aquatic species at risk as well as their habitats. Opportunities offered will include training and education to observe shorebirds, identify plants, monitor changes in terrestrial animals, reduce plastic waste, and adopt best practices to avoid disturbances or harm to Limestone Landscapes.
